Country Show & The Tour of Britain

Country Show & The Tour of Britain

It is that time of year again, when Winchcombe Cycling Club provides welcome shelter from the rain (or shade from the sun) in its prominently placed marquee at the Country Show! Cycling will have a high profile in town as the Tour of Britain is passing through Winchcombe on Saturday 9 September. We intend to have lots of information about this as part of our display.

The Show is on Monday 28 August, starting with a procession through town from Abbeyfields, leaving at 11.30am. We have traditionally had a good peloton of members taking part in the procession, wearing club kit. Could as many as possible please be at Abbeyfields in time for an 11.30 departure. The commissaires may take exception to dangerous overtaking of historic tractors, so we will roll steadily through town!

We also need volunteers to man the marquee. This is a great way to show people what we do as a club and to attract new members, as well as being good fun. We are looking for volunteers to do one of three 2 hour slots, and ideally will have one road, one MTB and one lady cyclist on the stand at any one time. Could you please let me know which time slot out of the following you would be able to offer: 12 – 2pm, 2 – 4pm, 4pm onwards (not later than 6).

Tour of Britain Intermediate Sprint

As mentioned above, the Tour of Britain passes through Winchcombe on Saturday 9 September – when some of us had inconveniently booked to be away on holiday ( Lots is happening in the Borough and Town to celebrate the Tour, more of which you will hear about via other sources. The organisers have asked if we can provide 10-12 volunteers to help organise the intermediate sprint, which is being held in Gloucester Street. We will be able to display our club flags and other materials prominently at the location, which will feature in the TV coverage. Russ Parker has kindly agreed to be volunteer team leader on the day. Please do consider if you can help the Club and the Tour by volunteering for approx 2 hours on the afternoon of 9 September, and let both Russ and me know if you can.

Thank you in advance for supporting these two important club events!
