HONC 2014 – report

15th April 2014 Off By WinchCC

A massive thank you to all of our 90 plus volunteers from WCC & CC-CC who planned staged and ran this year’s event, to our local police support, to our caterers, to Alan at Winchcombe School, to Winchcombe Scouts, to Leisure Lakes, to St John Ambulance and to our local landowners.

It’s great to see the tremendous feedback from riders on social media.

This year the sunny spring weather showed the Cotswolds at their very best and resulted in hugely improved route conditions. We hope the new start section we introduced provided some new challenges and surprises!

A great club turn out with over 40 riders- many of you marshalling or car parking or selling T’s before riding – CONGRATULATIONS! to our lady riders who were taking part in their first HONC – and to Jimmie D who was presented with his official and well deserved “HONC 2014 WCC Ladies Coach“ shirt in what proved to be a very emotional ceremony at the White Hart.

First WCC member home on the 100k route was Ian Cartwright in 4hr 40mins with Laura Kent the leading lady on the 100k in 6hr 5 mins. GREAT GOING!

Youngest 50k WCC rider was 11 year old Tom Peck and the oldest (sorry Jim!) was Jim Mason who rode in the very first HONC 30 years ago. WELL DONE Tom & Jim.

Oldest 100K rider (unless we have a better offer) was Simon Silvester closely followed by John Harkness – WELL DONE BOYS!

The First 100k rider home was David Hayward in 4hrs 30 minutes followed by Ian C. First 50k rider home was Calum Dickinson in 2hrs 25 min.

Our lucky HONC Junior Award winner is Leon Andre, from Bigfoot MBC, who successfully completed the 50k route. Leon will soon be the proud owner of a new WHYTE 810 650b/27.5” cross country bike.

A great day was rounded off with an excellent “de-brief” at the White Hart!
