A Happy New year to all our members

14th January 2015 Off By WinchCC

Some updates after the Holiday season

Boxing Day Freewheeling competition.
We had a great turnout of about 40 members for this years Freewheeling competition which was won by David Birch, one of our founder members who was visiting his family in Winchcombe for Christmas. David is no stranger to the competition and has won it a number of times in the past 35 years. There were just enough mince pies to go around afterwards!

It was nice to see a number of ladies out and Lorraine Hill did the greatest ladies distance. The Downhill cup and a new WCC medals will be awarded to David and Lorraine at the Club dinner later in the year.

Longer Road Rides
A number of road members have expressed the desire to have longer and more challenging Sunday rides than our current 30 to 50 miles with a cafe stop. If you are training for racing, sportifs, Audax long distance rides or if you just want a more challenging Sunday ride please let me know.

Send me an e-mail with your preferred distance, start time, and the sort of pace that would suit you. Neil Reynolds and Richard Fryer have both expressed an interest and are prepared to lead a ride.

British Heart foundation ride 17th May
The BHF Cotswold Bike ride will this year be run over two distances, 30 and 50 miles over new routes so there is a distance to suit most members. It is the only sponsored event that the Club has regularly supported and pledges to match sponsorship money collected by our members. Please see BHF web site

One Year Time Trial
Steve Abrahams started on 1 January his attempt to beat the world record for the greatest distance cycled in one year. The current record of 75,065 miles was set in 1939 by Tommy Godwin. To beat this Steve has to ride an average of over 205 miles every day this year!
I will be hosting Steve, who I know from my Audax days, on July 20th. He will spend the night in Greet and I’m sure would appreciate company on some of the following day’s ride.

You can follow his progress on www.oneyeartimetrial.org.uk and via his
live tracker site http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp…

This is pretty much an amateur effort and Steve has given up work for the attempt. Details of how to sponsor or support him are on the web site.

Membership Update and Survey.
In advance of the forthcoming AGM (date to be announced) the Secretary will shortly be sending out a questionnaire to all members for two purposes. To ensure that our membership database is correct and to try and establish what you, the members, want from the Club and that we are not already providing.

Shennington 24 Hous Cyclecar Race June 27th-28th
WCC have fielded a team of six riders for the past two years. In spite of our relative lack of experience we finished in the top 5 places with a distance of about 450 miles. Contact John Harkness, out Team Manager if you would like to know more about the event. jh@jharkness.co.uk

Have a safe, happy and healthy 2015
