The Tour through Winchcombe

Congratulations to Town Councillors & club members Jim Mason, Jim Davies, Russ Parker & Adam Phillips who were all heavily involved in organising the very successful Winchcombe contribution to the Tour of Britain.

The Fanzone, which the club supported, proved highly popular & the big screen carrying live coverage was a big hit. Well done to Jim Davies who, despite the untimely demise of his mobile on Friday evening, managed the Fanzone so well during the day & during the evening when the live bands took to the stage.

Thanks to everyone from the club who helped with setting up the Fanzone, manning our stand, marshalling & particularly Paul Workman & Mudway Workman for supplying the stage & also the marquee for our stand.

We had a lot of interest on the day & in the adjacent Gloucestershire Bike Project stands which the club sponsored. Their bike “fettling” service proved very popular as did their “smoothie bike” where pedal power was harnessed to operate the food blender that created the smoothies.

Our club marshals did great job under the direction of Russ Parker, particularly when presented with a fairly late request from the race organisers to clear all of the cars from one side of Gloucester Street for the sprint finish – It got sorted!

Despite an “odd bit of drizzle”, a very successful day for the Tour which showcased Winchcombe beautifully & engaged a lot of cyclists & non cyclists alike.
