34th HONC · Sunday 8th April 2018 · 100 or 50km
The original and Classic British Endurance Cycling event now in its 34th year.
Promoted jointly by Winchcombe Cycling Club and Cheltenham & County Cycling Club
Hell of the North Cotswolds 34
HONC UPDATE: Volunteers on the HONC team have ridden the route twice a week for the last few weeks, in 50 km segments, generally taking 3+ hours.
Our last ride showed the 50 km route is all rideable and the 100km has two ‘hike a bike’ sections.
The first long climb is on hard pack and tarmac on a permissive route. The technical climb just before the route split has been cleaned by everyone of late including less experienced riders.
Like any challenge, it depends on a host of factors weather, ground conditions, experience in choosing good lines, fitness and attitude. Clearly some bikes are more prone to clogging due to design and clearances. We are NOT telling you it will be easy - it will be a stiff challenge, particularly the 100km!
Remember, there are different ride options to choose from on the day, the 100km, the 50km, as well as a hybrid 75km if taking the initial long route at the first split. We will do our utmost to support, encourage and make the 34th running of the Hell of the North Cotswolds the best it can be in the circumstances of this year’s weather!
More updates will be available on the HONC Facebook page as we get closer to the event.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday the 8th!
HONC features a MASS START at 09.00hr from Winchcombe Community School near the picturesque town of Winchcombe.
Our on & off road endurance event, aimed at experienced riders, is run over challenging routes across the hills and valleys of the beautiful Cotswolds & uses a combination of roads, tracks and bridleways, with significant off-road sections.
There will be a 100km route for the very experienced and fit riders and a 50km route for those who know just how tough the off-road Cotswold Hills can be! You can choose on the day.
Routes will be marked by distinctive HONC arrows. Printed route maps will be issued at registration as part of your Rider Pack, and .gpx routes will be issued to all registered riders in the week before the event.
Food & drink will be available all day at the start/finish from 07.30hr and there will also be a food stop at around the half way point of each route.
Car parking, changing, toilets, showers and a bike wash will be available at the start/finish and a back up cycle recovery service will be provided.
