WCC club on Strava

15th August 2013 0 By WinchCC

WCC now has a club set up on Strava.

For those of you that have not heard of Strava before, it is basically as GPS tracking service that can map routes that you are riding live (using either a Garmin GPS system or a smart phone with the Strava app installed), or routes can be entered into the website and be shared with others.

The system records data about the route your are riding, and can be used to record lots of parameters such as average speed, altitude etc.

The club page will show you routes and times that other club members using the system have done recently, allowing you to find new routes (and even partake in a little friendly competition)

To see the clubs routes and other information, members will need to set up a Strave account (for free).

A quick work of warning! – it has been suggested that some bike thefts have been linked to various GPS mapping systems – if you are mapping rides from your home address, it is wise to pay attention to the privacy settings on your account. Strava includes an option to set a 1km radius around your chosen postcode so it doesn’t show your exact start/finish.
